I was just notified that The Lionshare is slated for a June 8th release date on Indieflix. From their ‘about’ page:
IndieFlix is dedicated to providing a forum for filmmakers and their audience to interact and to building a community that translates artistic vision into commercial success.
IndieFlix promises to build a fair and open market to empower filmmakers to be the engine of their achievement and audiences to be a vital part of a movie’s success.
IndieFlix is committed to encourage public opinion and power of choice while reinvesting in the independence of film, the people that craft them, and the organizations that support them.
We believe that every movie has an audience, every filmmaker has a story to tell and each story has the right to be shared.
Indieflix will be selling DVDs and digital downloads. I’m very happy to be associated with them.
The movie has gone live on the VODO front page. It’s packaged with a great 3-minute animated short at the beginning–LEGACY by Grzegorz Jonkajtys. Download the torrent and check it out.
The VODO guys had this to say in the description of the flick:
The film’s a sign of great things to come from director Josh Bernhard, and we’re delighted to be releasing his movie through the VODO network. Like the filmmakers behind Sweden’s recent ‘Nasty Old People’, Josh has been smart and forward thinking enough to use peer-to-peer to distribute his film. We should all be supporting him while we think about what films _we’re_ gonna make in 2010. New Year’s resolution anyone?
The Lionshare on VODO is a perfect fit, and we’re excited to see what comes of this partnership.
The movie has been selected to be the third release of VODO, a new online distribution platform that launched in October. It was founded by members of The Pirate Bay and some of the guys behind Steal This Film, the footage from which I remixed and used as a special feature on the DVD (see here). VODO stands for voluntary donation: you get the movie for free, and donate to the creators if you want to support them and their work.
It looks like The Lionshare is going to be their first narrative film release. Stay tuned for more info soon.
12/18 UPDATE: The movie is up!
In what I can only describe as an inexcusable omission, until now I have not created a trailer for the movie. We have a poster, a DVD, reviews, promotional stills, but no trailer. I can only say that I had some difficulty getting something together that I was happy with, and that I am dumb. But I’ve finally come up with something I think works pretty well, so without further ado:
Thanks to Mininova.org’s content distribution system, there’s finally a torrent available to download the movie. This is an HD quicktime file encoded in H.264, the same source file for all of the online upl0ads. So if you’d rather have a local copy to watch on your computer or set-top device rather than a streaming version on YouTube or Vimeo, here’s the way.
Clifford of TCWReviews.com made a new update today to tout the movie again and to spread the word about the upcoming DVD release. Check out the full story here on his website.
The DVD is almost finished, I promise. I’m expecting to have it for sale the beginning of August. Until then, there are two and a half ways to watch it:
The movie rests here in its entirety, in HD quality. It’s ad-supported, so if you get the urge, feel free to click on one. So far it’s netted us a whole $0.24.
The movie is split up into eight parts on YouTube, also in HD quality.
The same videos as YouTube are being posted here on Vimeo HD at the rate of one per week due to their HD upload restrictions. As of today, the first three of eight parts are up (hence the half).
If you watch on any of these sites, please leave a rating and/or a comment!
Once the DVD is out, we’re going to be organzing more local screenings in the New York area, plus wherever else we can get it shown. For now, the only firm screening date will be part of the NewFilmmakers series at The Anthology Film Archives on Wednesday, September 1. For more details, click on the ’screenings’ tab above.
The Lionshare is now available to view online, for free, at Openfilm.com.
The site showcases a fast-growing collection of high quality live-action and animated films displayed in high resolution. Openfilm provides a venue for users to watch premium video content, as well as for filmmakers to exhibit their works.
If you happen to watch, please leave comments! And/or click on an ad or two. Like, if you want. Just sayin.
